T4 Lows - The Recommended Modifications (40mm - 55mm)

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

One of the question we get asked the most is what modifications do I need to lower my T4.

The VW T4 runs a older style suspension setup compared to modern day vans. The T4 uses coil springs on the rear and torsion bars on the front. This means in order to lower the T4 you will need to replace the rear springs and adjust the front torsion nuts to match.

Below is the recommended parts and modifications to lower your T4 up to 55mm

This is the simplest way to reduce the arch gap on your T4 whilst still retaining good ground clearance. You will need the following:

  • 40mm - 40mm lowering springs (we recommend Vogtland or H&R)

  • 55mm - requires 40mm lowering springs and a pair of 3mm poly shims

The 3mm poly shims are designed to replace the existing upper spring shim. The existing upper shim is very thick so by replacing it with our 3mm shims it will lower the van a further 10mm -15mm over the originals. These shims can also be used at the bottom of the spring if the original shim is worn out. This will prevent metal on metal contact and prolong the life of the spring.

If you have any questions then please feel free to ask, we are always happy to help.
